Andreas Konkoly

Andreas Konkoly 1918 – 2003

(a digest from the obituary by Nick Rodgers in the International Meccanoman nr. 40 of 10-2003)

Andor Ervin Konkoly was born on 17th april 1918 and introduced to the metal construction systems at the age of nine. His name became known to the Meccano Fraternity after an article in the December 1959 Meccano Magazine.
Andreas designed numerous ingenious models.
His “woodpecker” and “Horse and Chariot” became most popular not to mention his many designs of Meccanographs. His designs were always to the closest possible tolerance in the Meccano system.

The Runnymede Meccano Guild had reached a special agreement with Andreas to publish a number of his modelling instructions and Nick Rodgers started to collate all of Konkoly’s material for eventual publication in book form.
With Andreas no longer here to advice, this enormous task probably will take years to complete.

The Meccanoworld will greatly miss Andreas’ ingenuity and inspiration.

You will find the complete story in the International Meccanoman nr. 40 of September 2003
